What is a teaser bet?
A teaser bet is a type of parlay bet that allows bettors to adjust the point spread or totals in their favour for a smaller payout than a parlay would offer. In a teaser bet, the bettor chooses two or more point spreads or totals, and adjusts them in their favour by a certain number of points. The adjusted spreads or totals must all be correct for the bet to pay out.
Teaser bets can be adjusted by different numbers of points, and can be used for point spreads or totals. The amount of the adjustment and the number of games included in the teaser bet will affect the odds and potential payout.
It’s important to note that teaser bets are still a form of parlay bet and require all bets to be correct for the bettor to win. While adjusting the point spread or total can increase the bettor’s chances of winning, it also lowers the potential payout.
What is an example of a teaser bet?
Here’s an example of how a teaser bet works in football:
Let’s say a bettor wants to place a teaser bet on two football games. The original point spreads for the games are:
- Game 1: Dallas Cowboys -7 vs. Philadelphia Eagles
- Game 2: New York Giants -3 vs. Washington Football Team
If the bettor wanted to place a traditional parlay bet on these games, they would need to correctly pick the winner against the point spread for both games. However, with a teaser bet, the bettor can adjust the point spreads in their favour, for example:
- Game 1: Dallas Cowboys -7 to -3 (a 4-point adjustment)
- Game 2: New York Giants -3 to +3 (a 6-point adjustment)
The adjusted spreads are now:
- Game 1: Dallas Cowboys -3 vs. Philadelphia Eagles
- Game 2: New York Giants +3 vs. Washington Football Team
Now, the bettor only needs both teams to win by at least the new point spread for the bet to pay out. The adjusted point spreads have lowered the payout, but have also increased the bettor’s chances of winning.
